Landscape

Frame Format Selection

Frame is a boundary edge of an image, it can be horizontal (landscape) or vertical (portrait).

The selection of a frame format played an important role in making a good composition. Because the frame influence the one’s direction of view about the picture, and giving the impression. To get the frame landscape or portrait, when shooting we just rotate the camera.

1. Landscape

Landscape

Landscape is when the width side is longer than the height side. Thus, the dominant direction of one’s eyesight tends to side, from left to right or from right to left (horizontal).

Landscape gives the impression of :

  • Width
  • Harmony
  • In order
  • Peace
  • Stability
  • Relax

Landscape is better used for shooting the nature views or the groups of people.

2. Portrait

Portrait

Portrait is when the height side is longer than the width side. Thus, the dominant direction of one’s eyesight tends from top to bottom or from bottom to top (vertical).

Portrait gives the impression of:

  • Formal
  • Narrow
  • High.

Portrait is better used for shooting the high building, statue, and other high object.

That’s all about the Frame Format Selection. Which kind frame that you like? ;)

Composition

Photography is drawing with light. For that, a photographer should understand and have a sense of art, like an artist, in order to get the interesting picture.

One of the reasons why we make pictures because we wanted to share what we see from an event with others. For this reason, in addition to interest, pictures that we make must be communicative (talking).
